I'm a bad neighbor

Lori, my next door neighbor called me today. She has never called me. She has never said more than hi on the drive way. We have never discussed what our children are doing. We don't talk. Period. She is in a different class than I am. I have no problem with that. I have done well, but that does not change your class. I will always be the daughter of my parents. I can't change that and considering what I have accomplished, I don't think I want to.

So, Lori called not to say hi. She didn't want to talk about the latest gossip. She didn't want to call to see if I was going to have a garage sale. She only called to complain about the appearance of my yard. Especially the side that faces her home. She wanted to know if she could weed it. "We thought you'd be such nice neighbors, but now I think we have to put up a fence."

"If that is what you feel you have to do," I replied.

There is no point in arguing with her. My yard isn't nice and I don't really care. It just isn't that important to me. I worry more about the inside of things than about appearances I guess. I'm like that with a lot of things. It's what inside that counts. Inside, that un-kept house, is a messy room with a loving family.

She doesn't like where we put our garbage can, but to us, it is put in just the right spot.

She doesn't like the weeds. A weed is a plant growing where you don't want it. To me the grass is more of a weed. I was born and raised in the city, grass comes up in the cracks in the sidewalk, that's a weed! The queen ann's lace is beautiful.

Basically, Lori just cares about Lori. How do things look from here side of the yard.

I really hope she puts up a fence soon. Good fences make good neighbors.

Part Two... my husband came home 3 hours latter...

and I told him. I ask him what we should do. He told me "What can we do? You know how they are. You knew that before we moved in"

So he and the kids worked outside. Jim mowed down all of our day lilies near her side of the property line. "It's weeded", he said.

"You're right" I replied with a sinister grin.

Thing grow so fast here because there is so much love and understanding between the members of this household. We sow the seeds of love and while others see weeds, we see a wild flower garden.

It's all perspective I guess.

She actually said that to you? She's in a different class alright- not better , but certainly differnt.

My brother lives next to scrapyard- I can probably get you plenty of rusty chain link fence w/ barbed-wire topping -the city kind:)

Lori would love that, do you think?

Nice ending too.Weeds are nice if you look at them that way.
