Sunday, with my boy home from scout camp we need to find something fun to do. My son loves scouting and camping-- he even received his order of the arrow service award this year-- but camp is always midsummer, so he misses the lager fests that we go to.
The original plan was to do summerfest. Summerfest is billed as the worlds largest music fest, bands all day and night, all types of music. We usually have a great time, but this year it was lacking two things---burgoff red at every booth and crayfish.
We mentioned the lack of crayfish to Zach--- and he came up with a different idea, the renaissance fair in Bristol
The Fair runs every weekend in the summer. It is compete with jousting, the queens parade, dueling, crafts, food, drink, and many people in costume.
It was about 100 degrees out, so I didn't where a costume... although I did have this outfit I wore to the Pirates opening night that would have been grand!
We entered the gates of the city to be greeted by lords and ladies hocking food. Low and behold, my eyes lay upon several of the good maids from the high school that our young page from Switzerland attend. Our Swiss Page, well intrigued by the art the number of good looking man not waring pants, had thought that this would be an excellent summer job if he comes back to the states for school.
My younger children enjoined things such as the mud show, the shopping, and the food. Dear Zach grew horns, and found himself chasing fairies around.
I did challenge the lad to a sward fight--- for $10 I was able to take a blade to him and not have the authorities come after me. Huzzah! Huzzah!
The food was wonderful with generous portions. The most wonderful thing for me was that there was a pub at every turn, and since we were in merry Ol' England they had New Castle Brown Ale on tap!!!! Oh my!!!
My husband even bought me a cloak for our next visit! I think when the guy pulled on the stirngs-- he couldnt resist!
All in all a great fair and a great day!

That was a great idea on his part, and glad the day went so well. I've always wanted to go to one of those things....
Sounds like a blast. Is it wrong that I got so much pleasure out of that sword fight? Huzzah Mom!
So glad you had a good time, I got pleasure out of the swordfight too!! You had areal blast!!
My brother and I used to work at the RF - he made two suits of honest-to -gosh chainmail (50 lbs of metal!) and we got paid $3.35/hr to walk around and speak with bad accents. At night there were bonfires and mead...lots of mead!
Some of the best times I ever had...*sigh*. Glad you went!
