Speech wirter for our returning troops

So, on Tuesday, when President Obama spoke to our children, my daughter in Jr. High got to see the speech. My son and AFS daughter in high school did not. I could almost make an excuse for my son, as he is not taking a history class this year, but my AFS daughter is taking American History. You would think they would have showed the speech.

The really funny thing is .. well it is serendipitous! The way, even when life isn't going the way I want it to, little opportunities seem to come my way.

A volunteer friend of mine called me. Her daughter has just finished her tour in Afghanistan, and will be home tonight. She will be recognized at the High School football game. She called me, and asked if I would write the introduction. I am often asked to write the speech, promo or introductions for those out here -- and I am honored every time I ask. This, however, was a bit of a shock. After all, this woman knows I am war protester. She knows I feel the military prays on our children. She knows and yet she asked, because she trusts me.

Well-- I wrote something. And I did something that most people will never "get", but I did it anyway! I thought that if I was going to honor our military, I should find a meaningful quote from our current Commander in Chief, that I would include it in the introduction and it would mean that the 100's of HS students would then get to hear the words of our president. The funny thing is, as you read the introduction, this does not sound like something a liberal might say --- but it is!

We are lucky to live in a Nation where we are free,. But especially today, the 8th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks, we need recognize that freedom is never free. We live in one of the greatest countries on earth, and many before us have worked hard so we can sustain our democracy. As American’s “We will not apologize for our way of life, nor will we waver in its defense.” These Harvard High School students have taken up the task to help protect our way of life. We would like to recognize them on their return home.

Specialist, Student's name, Student's Name

We would now ask that all those who have severed our great nation also stand and be recognized. And we ask for a moment of silence, for all those who are currently serving in the military, and for those while in service of our great land, did not make it home.

I can't wait to hear how many republicans like this!!!! Wait until they find out they liked something President Obama had to say!!!
