Well folks, I have an interview on Monday. The pay isn't all that great and because I am over qualified and the powers that be feel I may leave if something better comes along, well I may not get it, but I believe I am perfect for the job.
It is the director position for our chamber.
Why am I perfect? Well I have helped on almost every project they have been involved in for the past 10 years. Why else? I am respected in the community as a hard working extrovert who gets things done.
And still, they may think being as involved in the community, it might not be best to pay me to do it full time. I know they fear I may leave if the market takes a turn of if someone out there decides to offer me what I'm worth. That's okay. I'll put my best foot forward.
They are hosting an event, and the first phase of my interview is to do a meet and greet at the event. Well, I called up the guests that I know that were invited, made sure to remind them to be there and to say "Hi".
So, in a way, I have already started working. I just have to convince them to pay me.
Other news--- I am taking a mental health day next week.
There is an exhibit called Sympathy for the Devil: Art and Rock and Roll Since 1967
Now some of you know I have a big birthday coming up, and this kind of struck a never, because they will be covering the last 40 years of two things that mean the world too me.
I have the vision of afternoon an martini, a fancy lunch, a good book, looking beautiful, taking pictures ---yep a day!
For now, its laundry and bills-- and oh Im applying for a part time postion at a local theater / open mic cafe place too! Evenings and weekends they will pay me to see bands and plays woo hooo!

Good luck on all the positions that you apply for.
Good luck! It's awful out there, but I guess you already know that...where are the 'grown-up' jobs?
"So, in a way, I have already started working. I just have to convince them to pay me."
I know that feeling! My volunteer awards are not considered legal tender by my soon to be ex-landlord.
What you need to do is to wear some cover alls, a pair of boots with cow poo on them and check a toothpick! Then you will be an everyday country mouse and they won't fear the city scent you carry with ya! Then you will make a country fried living!
Wishing you the very best of luck CM. Fingers and toes duly crossed.
Only covering 40 years... oh dearie me that wil never do...need 50 years at least.
thanks MOM!
Allan-- ya, if i dont get this, i think im just going to be a teenager again, do something radical to my hair, dress in leather / animal pirnts like i did in the 80's and get a job at hot topics
spongybones--sniff sniff-- yeah, i guess you still can smell city on my-- my nine west boots give me away.
Fuff-- you can cross your toes??? Cool!
middle child-- well for those of you who are closer to the 50 mark then the 40 mark, you actually remember all the music, unlike me, i had to learn about it!
i hate that overqualification isn't a plus. excellence should be congratulated and rewarded. i guess it's another side effect of the mediocracy heralded in by our *wise* and *trusted* *leader*. you know who i'm talking about.
Well, good luck to you, young Mouse. If they have any sense at all they'll hire you!
And enjoy that mental health day. Sounds fab.
Good luck with the job, and the mental health day. I think everybody should take them.
I had to find time for THIS comment, Mouse. I am wishing you the very best of luck, which you don't really need because you are going to rock their world and you ARE totally perfect for the job. I just hope you get exactly what you want, and if this is it, then I hope you get it!
Good luck you deserve some!
Love the idea of seeing bands and stuff for free and getting paid in to the bargain!!
Best of luck to you CM! I can't cross my toes, but I do have my eyes crossed for you!
[ Oww... oww ... owww ... ]
Crossed eyes + sinus headache = really bad idea!!
(^_~)
no words of wisdom just good thoughts -- i'm sure it won't be luck that gets you hired, it will be what you've earned, and here's to them seeing it!
