Well, the fest has started. Get your kicks at milk day 66!
66 Years of this! Wow!
We participated in the Bed Race and won! 1st place in the over 30 division! I have a huge bruise on my leg-- but we did it! We were 4th fastest out of the 11 teams that participated-- a very good showing if I do say so myself.
So here is the video-- poor quality, but here it is anyway!
I should mention the Swiss Son and Friends also had a team. I think that was the most important thing. The three exchange students-- Swiss, Brazilian and Thai paired up with two local kids and they formed a team. Julien made the shirts of course!
Now I may be I hopeless optimist, but I cant help but think this is the kind of thing that will brings our world together. People working together for a common goal. People doing something out of their comfort zone-- to smile laugh and have fun. They had the 3rd fastest time over all, but didn't win in their division. To think-- travel around the world to push an old hospital bed down the street through an obstacle course.
They will be by today to decorate the our truck for the kid parade-- AFS kids in the parade. An All American Experience.
One last thing--- last year when i wrote this, I think I had two readers. This year, so many people stop by to see what is going on in my little world, and I really appreciate all your visits and comments. Small towns can be great, but sometimes i feel like no one out here can relate to my big city views --- so thanks guys for being here to share this all with me. I really appreciate it.
Oh-- and I know I have a lurker or two out there too-- you know who you are! You read this thing all the time, but you never comment. Well I want to thank you guys too! Keep coming back!
This blog contains personal, professional and political observations of mature city girl who has mooved to a small town- a town less than suburbia. It may also personal reflections on religion, sex, raising children, relationships and the state of the world as I see it. Oh, spelling doesn’t count!

The vids are good because they give all of us a vision. Thanks for sharing. I feel honoured to be able to be part of your support network and so glad to have found you.
Take care. You rock girl!
Now I may be I hopeless optimist, but I cant help but think this is the kind of thing that will brings our world together.
You deserve a gigantic hug for saying that. And another gigantic hug for WINNING! You had such a huge smile on your face when you passed by the camera!
Great job!
I am laughing my butt off. What the heck? I mean, I know about bed races but all those little tossing/collecting things you had to do, too? Crazy. Well done on coming in 1st!
And I suspect that J is never going to forget this experience...the bed race AND his time with your family.
Btw, I'm waiting for you to email me. One can't have too many Chicago tips.
Lurker from Germany says:
The cultural gap between the U.S. and Old Europe seems to be enormous! I wish I had been an AFS-student in my youth, maybe then I could understand, why Americans drive down the road in old hospital beds ;-)
But, okay, if this is a contribution to the world's climate improvement...
Ever since I saw the opening sequence of the Monkees, I've known that bed racing would become America's greatest sport.
1st place!..This is HUGE!!
That was a lotta fun CM. :)
Wahey! Well done; it looked like fun!
Fun!
And I love this whole "video blog" thing. More!
Love the Videos, Bathtub races are an annual tradition here!
You are a great mom!
That was GREAT! You know, I don't think you have to worry about your Swiss son not staying in touch. Stuff like this makes lifelong connections. He'll be part of your life forever!
Well, I was just planning to lurk, but you caught me.
That was crazy! A sort of scavenger hunt, race, decathalon, slumber party combo deal.
