In 2004 my husband and I decided to host an exchange student. It started as pillow talk. It started as what we wanted for our own children. It has become something so much more. It was a decision that ultimately changed our lives forever, for the better. We now have family around the world.
In July of 2011 Jack and his family, AND my Swiss son along with three of his friends, came to stay with us for visit! Jack for about 10 days and the Swiss folks for the month of July.
Getting prepared to have 7 additional folks stay at your home is much easier than you think. I had a list a mile long of things that should be done before everyone arrives -- but that didn’t happen. I stressed about if for a while, but seeing as I was the only one in my home that thought making room and moving things around to accommodate out guest was necessary, well let's just say I learned I can't always do it all on my own.
Looking back at the month as a whole it was great! I only wish I had more time to just hang out with everyone. My guests had plans, I had to work, but sometimes I just wanted to sit and chat. I didn’t get enough of that I guess.
This post was going to be really deep, but I just can put into words the emotions. How awesome it is to have people love you so much, people who are popular and could choose to be anywhere in the world, and they choose to be with you. I am so grateful to have those types of friends in my life.
I wanted to write about The Taste and Alinea and Boys Town and China Town and Thanksgiving Dinner. I am sure I will in future blogs. Right now, all I can do is to be awestruck by how lucky I am that I have friends like this is my life.
Two decisions I have made that have changed my life forever.
