Cui bono?

The economic Development committee just sent out it's news paper. They told us how great they were and how all these companies are moving into Harvard because of them. It's all their idea. And it tells how these companies use the people on the development committee for finding a great place to rent (from the leaders of the committee of course) to start their business.

I think its a crock. The people who benefit are the land lords, those who take city funds to have a committee to steer business to themselves. Is anyone looking out for the new guy coming into town.

Now look, I like this town, I want to see new business here, but I want competition and I want people to have choices. I don't like the idea that everything rolls back to the same 10 people-- who happen to be on the School Board and own a bunch of industrial rental and other vacant land.

The bottom line is Cui Bono? Who benefits? I hope it is not just those who print the publication. I hope the guy opening his new business here can make a go of it. I hope he doesn't find that when he tries to buy some land and have it rezoned to meet his needs that it isn't voted down because it is in direct competition with someone else's.

Nice observation on the small-town economic dynamic- there's a status quo on the cui bono, ya know? It's easy for the long-timers to accept that certain resources are controlled by certain intrests/families etc.- it's always been that way, right?
It's up to 'new blood' to shake things up, which isn't easy, but it's kinda neccesary if you want progress.

Shake it and bake it- whatever that means! *chuckle*
